My timings off with iPad 2 and potassium iodide

Well, I guess sometimes the early bird really does get the worm. And us late birds get the worm several weeks later.

I happened to be awake at 1:00 am last Friday morning, when the iPad 2 went on sale via Apple's web site. Since we'd planned to get one for my wife, I hauled my MacBook up to the bathroom and checked out the Apple store while I brushed my teeth.

I configured an iPad 2 and was about ready to click "buy." Then I realized that I didn't know what color cover my wife would like, and I wasn't absolutely sure about some other options.

So I figured that the "2-3 days" shipping time shown on the Apple web site wouldn't change much by the next day. Wrong. By the time I made my order late Friday morning the wait time to get an iPad 2 was up to 2-3 weeks.

Patience, grasshopper, patience.

With the potassium iodide, me and millions of other people must have come to the same conclusion today: it's time to think about protecting our thyroids if a radiation cloud comes floating across the Pacific from Japan into the United States.

Searching via Google Shopping and other means, I found a lot of "sold out" notices. Best I could do was order some potassium iodide on Amazon that came from the Vitamin Shoppe.

Delivery estimate is March 28 – April 5. Probably I won't be dead by then. Anyway, I've read that thyroid cancer takes ten to twenty years to show up, which will put me into even more advanced geezerhood.

I can always chug a salt shaker, I guess, if I get desperate. And we've got a bottle of kelp capsules hanging around the house, which supposedly do something or other to help ameliorate radiation poisoning.

A bottle of wine (or two) might be a better option.

I too was surprised by how quickly the inventory delivery got delayed.
I ended up standing in line at Best Buy that Friday….
The iPad 2 is clearly faster and you can feel the thinness differential.
I think your wife is going to love it.
